The Bendigo Primary School Championships was held at Mandurang, starting at the oval and extending into the bushland behind the sports ground. Jim had promised us a mostly fine day, and mostly delivered – apart from an anxious 10 minutes before the first Starts as it clouded over and a few raindrops came down.
We had over 500 primary school competitors from 12 different schools around Bendigo; from as far south as Romsey, Taradale and Elphinstone, and from Goornong to the north. Special mention must go to Lockwood PS (1 student) and Big Hill PS (2 students).
It all started at 10:30am, and I was out on the course for most of the morning, helping kids navigate their way to the next control without getting too lost dis-oriented. At times it seemed as though all 500 kids were on the same track at the same time… it was like trying to herd ants! I have to say though, that the Space Racers weren’t the ones asking for help. At the end of the day, we managed to get all 500 back onto the oval without losing any, and we finished off with presentations shortly after 1:30pm.
